My family is seriously into the outdoors! We spend a significant amount of time doing outdoorsy things and vacationing is no exception. Cabin rentals are an awesome idea for families with children, those wanting a romantic getaway, a large group having a get together or literally anyone at all! If you’ve ever searched for a cabin rental, you’ve probably noticed that there are some major differences between them. Some of the cabins might sleep 30, some might sleep 2. Depending on area, some cabins go for $1,000/night while others are in the $150/night range. In my list below, I’m going to highlight as many alternatives as possible.

Giant’s View Lodge, located in the Adirondacks, is a custom built (and absolutely beautiful) log cabin. Guests enjoy the captivating perennial gardens, countless hiking and skiing trails as well as incredible views of Great Mountain.

While staying at this authentic log cabin, you will have access to 70 acres of Vermont forest with hiking/snowshoe trails, streams and ponds. Relaxing in front of the stone wood burning fireplace or on the rocking porch is a favorite among previous guests. Note that 4WD or AWD is required for winter bookings.

This super cool glamping pod is located at the Mountain Vista Campground in the Pocono Mountains. The pod is 16 feet long and features a bathroom with shower stall, under counter refrigerator, countertop and sink.

Mountain Vista offers many amenities including a swimming pool, stocked fishing pond, tennis courts and even a mining sluice. Locally there is a LOT to do too. Within 15 minutes you have the Poconos TreeVentures attraction, Mount Airy Casino, hiking on the Appalachian Trail and even Outlet shopping.

This beautiful cabin is located just 20 feet from the banks of the Kennebec River. This area offers a wide range of outdoor activities and is directly across the street from the area’s extensive Snowmobile Trail and ATV Trail System.

The cabin once belonged to Gadabout Gaddis, aka The Flying Fisherman, and hosts a wide range of amenities. There is a large 60″ Smart TV, WIFI and a stock of personal items such as shampoo and soap.

If you’ve never been to Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia, you’re in for a treat! There is an endless amount of outdoor activities in both summer and winter months. The cabin offers free shuttle service to the ski slopes and direct access to mountain biking and hiking trails.

The Polaris Pointe is an impressive cabin. Some of it’s luxurious amenities include a Jacuzzi® J-LX® hot tub, 65″ 4K HDTV, a telescope and a Sony PlayStation. This cabin has impeccable reviews from those that have stayed there.

From it’s spectacular wrap around porches to it’s majestic mountain views, the Stairway to Heaven cabin is a great start to a dream vacation. As though the view isn’t enough, the cabin has a 5-person hot tub, outdoor fire pit, billiards table and a 65″ flat screen tv.

Reviewers boast about the cabin’s cleanliness and the owners even make sure the little ones are taken care of by providing a portable crib and gate.

The Gatlinburg area is honestly one of my favorite destinations. There is a wide range of things to do from ziplining and white water rafting to amusement parks and dinner shows. You can take a beautifully scenic drive through the Smoky Mountains or go shopping in downtown.

This quaint economy cabin is a fantastic alternative to booking a hotel with the average nightly rate at just over a hundred dollars. Amenities include a fully equipped kitchen, hot tub on the deck, fireplace and washer/dryer.

This rustic cabin offers complete solitude with abundant wildlife and several exclusive hiking trails. You are within walking distance from a private beach on Lake Superior and access to the Amnicon River. Birdwatching is a favorite guest activity on their 500-acre migratory bird research area.

The cabin itself offers a cozy fireplace, personal outhouse with heat and lights, as well as indoor showers, toilets and sauna a short walk away. Canoes and snowshoes are available to borrow.

While it’s not a rustic cabin, the Half House is too cool not to include on the list. Architect Earl Young created this unique stone house which was ranked #1 Charlevoix rental by VRBO.

Aside from the house itself, this rental has a lot to offer. Just outside your door are the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan as well as a super cool lighthouse. The Half House is just two blocks from the village of Charlevoix where you can enjoy shopping, dining, the marina or watching the drawbridge.

This unique cabin offers a wood burning stove, lovely deck and a spiral staircase. Other amenities include free wifi, a barbeque grill and a wonderful mountain view.

This rustic open loft cabin has many great things to offer. It comes equipped with a wood burning stove fireplace, front and back decks, outdoor firepit, picnic table and gas BBQ. The cabin is freshly remodeled and even includes a hot tub and fully equipped kitchen.

Angel House is a custom built luxury log cabin that’s actually been seen in Log Home Living Magazine as well as STUDIOS Magazine. The cabin is on a scenic by-way bordered by the San Isabel National Forest and is located in one of ten communities in the world that has earned a Dark Skies designation.

The cabin itself is a sight to behold. There are two decks, a BBQ grill, ski chair swing and outdoor space for entertaining. The inside boasts a moss rock fireplace, fully stocked linens, a leather recliner and a flat screen TV with surround sound. Massage therapy or Vibrational Sound therapy can be pre-booked for on site appointments.

The cabin features a beautifully marbled gas fired stove, wifi, a porch and deck, as well as on site massage appointments. The owners live on the property to attend to your needs. You can also rent the Teacherage Cabin next door if you have additional guests.
